The
focus of Bridging the Disconnects projects is to increase
student achievement. A consortium of 20 public and 10 private
schools in partnership with Governor's State University, non-profit
agencies, business and the Regional Office of Education has
implemented a model of teaching that integrates technology
in social studies and science
with an emphasis on improving reading comprehension.
Digital
tools including the Dana wireless device and Personal Digital
Assistant (PDA) software are used in social studies and science
classrooms to integrate reading strategies and embed assessment
practices. A cross-platform instrument, Dana empowers students
to apply technology as a learning tool. This project brings
together 21st century digital age skills, instructional strategies
that improve reading, and teaches students to become effective
readers. The
