Advanced
Studio Art Opening
Newark
Il. (May 12, 2006) – Students in Advanced Studio Art class at Newark
Community High School will be showcasing their personal work during an
art opening at Charles B. Phillip Library in Newark on Friday, May 19.
“The purpose of the Advanced Studio class is to give the students
an experience of what it is like to be a professional artist having an
art opening and gallery exhibit,” explains William Blidy, Art Teacher.
Students in this class create 5 portfolio quality art works during the
course of the semester, write artist statements, matte and frame their
works, arrange the works in a gallery space, and visit with the public
about their works during the art opening.
“Each of these works is an original work of art coming from the
student's own ideas,” says Blidy. “I’m really proud
of their projects this semester. Each student in this class is exploring
his or her own interests and ideas as an artist.
New to this year, seniors will offer a Retrospective Show, highlighting
their best works created between freshman and senior year at Newark.
Students displaying their works include seniors, Andrea Weber, Andrew
Kellogg and Adam Marcley and junior Tyler Vickroy.
The artists will be present from 6:00p.m. - 7:00p.m. at the Art Opening
to discuss their work. The Exhibit will be on display during normal CBP
Library hours through Monday, May 22. The library is open Saturdays from
10:00a.m. to 2:00p.m. and Mondays from 1:00p.m. to 6:00p.m.
