Newark Drama Club Presents A Midsummer Night's Dream
Newark, Il. -
Okay, so there’s this girl. This girl loves this guy, and the guy loves her.
Perfect scenario, right? Then along comes this other guy who loves the same girl,
but this second guy got consent from the girl’s father to marry her. Plus her father
doesn’t think the first guy is worthy of his daughter. Then another other girl enters
the mix. She loves the second guy, but he hates her. Shakespeare was all about crazy
things like that, and the NCHS Drama Club is taking it in stride.
For the seniors, this is the last fall play that they will present. Director Mrs. Wheeler decided she wanted them to go out with a bang, and this play would do the trick. This comic script also brings a challenge for everyone involved from the cast to the crew as well. It gives the cast an idea of what theatre used to be like in the Shakespearian era, which was very informal. Mrs. Wheeler also said that since our fall plays are generally a bit dark and heavy, she wanted to switch it up and do something light and humorous. “Midsummer really gets the actors out of their comfort zones. They need to be comfortable with being close to one another and get used to the Shakespearian language to top it off,” stated Mrs. Wheeler. You know you want to come see it. When you ask? Well, the dates are Friday, October 28th at 7:00 p.m., and Saturday, October 29th, matinee at 3:00 p.m., and 7:00 p.m. See you there! |
