Everybody Cut!

This year, Drama Club is lacing up their dancing shoes as they prepare to put on Footloose the Musical!
Drama Club has a pretty intense schedule with three practices per week, not including choreography days. When asked how he thought practices were going, junior Jason Davidson responded, "Everything is going good! They are very packed and busy, but we're still able to make time for fun!" Footloose is centered on a small town, Bomont, where everyone knows your business and dancing is against the law. This becomes a problem when Chicago teenager, Ren, and his mother come to live with his aunt and uncle in this conservative community. Ren has a hard time fitting in and begins stirring up trouble when he unexpectedly ends up falling for the misunderstood preacher's daughter. If people are debating on seeing this play, Mrs. Wheeler, the artistic director, has this to say about it, "It's both entertaining and heartfelt. It's a show about reconciliation. When most people think of Footloose, they think of the music and dancing. But it's also a show about grief and domestic violence and healing and coming together. Our students do it justice. It's really lovely." Come out and support Newark's Drama Club, April 28-30 at 7pm, and check out Footloose the Musical. We hope to see you there! |
