Newark Drama Club Presents Almost, Maine
Director's Notes
![]() Performance Dates:
Nov. 3-6, 7:00PM
Welcome to Almost, Maine, a small town that never got around to finding a
real name, so it’s just Almost. On this magical night, we catch a glimpse into
the lives of its residents. They are a lot like us. Sometimes they say the wrong
thing at the wrong time, and they put distance between themselves and the
people they love. They try to mend broken hearts, even when people aren’t
ready to put the pieces back together. They are villains, driving others away.
Perhaps they want to numb themselves to pain instead of facing the gaping
emptiness of unrequited love. They don’t choose to fall in love. And just when
they feel hopeless, love magically appears. Love may seem complicated,
unpredictable, and ruthless, but it’s actually quite simple. Every one of us is
lovable. Love extends far beyond the town of Almost. It stretches us and frees us.
But we have to be open to love. True love requires us to be vulnerable to one
another. It means removing the layers and illuminating who we truly are. Our
actors have made this show uniquely theirs by analyzing each moment and finding
their truth in it. Love may be complicated at times, but with it, anything is possible.
At our core, we’re all lovable. Every single one of us. And not almost. Always.
